During his years in Chicago, Arlo developed a jug band class at the Old Town School of Folk Music that was not only great fun, but that developed an extensive repertoire and performed regularly. That included winning the 25th Annual Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands. His skill at promotion not only landed regular gigs for the class, but also got them on WGN television AND made them the first ensemble class to win a spot on the main stage at the annual Folk and Roots Festival. Not only did he start the Chicago Battle of the Jug Bands, but he got the Battle excellent media coverage, including stories in the Chicago Tribune and Time Out Magazine. He deserves recognition,
ideally this year.

A teacher and performer extraordinaire, Arlo Leach led the Old Town School of Folk Music's Jug Band ensemble class (AKA: The Hump Night Thumpers) to claim the coveted First Place Waffle Iron prize at the 2007 Battle of the Jugbands in Minneapolis. And then in 2008, after holding a knock-out benefit to raise funds, he led us all to Memphis to install a headstone at the gravesite of Will Shade.
