Fred Cox was an early historian of jug band music and maintained an exceptional collection of jug band music 78's. Although he lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, his particular interest was the jug bands of Louisville. With his collaborators John Randolph and John Harris, Fred amassed an exceptional repository of photographs, oral histories, newspaper clippings, and posters. He was never able to complete the book that he wanted to compile on the Louisville Jug Bands. However, much of his work was serialized in Storyville magazine published in Great Britain. It was also compiled by Laurie Wright in a small book "The Jug Bands of Louisville" published by Storyville Publications. The personnel lists and discographies in this book are invaluable to anyone interested in the Louisville Jug Bands.
